1. Page Size – what size will your pages be? Why?
My book size is 1/4 of A4 paper.
2. Print media – What will you print on? What size?
I will draw on A4 paper first and then photocopy and then paste on the card.
3. Printing technology – What type(s) of printers will you be using? Why?
I will draw on A4 paper first and then photocopy and then paste on the card.
I bought supplies from doller mart.
4. Typography – which fonts will you be using? Be specific. Why?
I am not sure yet, but I will use typography that is really neat and easy to see.
For the name of the muscle I will make typography thicker.

my style of book is like a card that anyone can read or play with.
I made the book looks like a colouring book.
6. Handmade techniques – describe any handmade components you will be using
I will fisrt sketch on A4paper and then I will photocopy it, then I will paste on a hard paper.
Next, I will colour on the pictures.

For binding I was thinking to make a case for this book but I changed to make it looks like a book cover.

I once attended Kinesiology course and I realized that muscles are really incredible for human to function well and I was interested to make book for that.

Kinda changed my plan again - RR
Yeah, I did.
But not completely, I mean same idea, but it's not scrapbooky, (yes, now you can love it:)
ok so
the book is gonna be like a closet
I already bought this pre-made wooden box thing that should work,
and I'm going to photograph my real closet, and the doors are gonna be the cover and they will open in the middle. inside the box it will be kinda like my real closet with things hanging and a mirror inside and stuff
and the things hanging will be photographs of all of the vintage clothes
...that's pretty much my description of the binding.
and the colour theme will be brown. wood-coloured, you know.
Oh and no fonts.
I'll hand-write whatever text I need
I want the rest to be a surprise but that doesn't really work so remember all that stuff I told you I wanted to do when I was talking to you after school? yeah, it's gonna be like that.
Oh and for the budget it cost 12$ to get stuff printed, 1.50 for the box thing and I lost my glue gun so I had to buy one of those ):
so technically it came to like 20$, which is almost 25$ which is how much I was gonna spend. Win!
Oh and the printing is kinda speckley and grainy which I think is kinda b.s Kinkos failed me ):
oh and the paper has some weird cloth texture, which is totally not my fault.

M.L SUMMATIVE NEW PLAN
Okay, so I changed my whole plan for the book. No journal stuff, not illustrations that look like other people’s illustrations. I was walking in the mall today when a couple of us encountered an awkward moment. We laughed about it for awhile after and then the idea popped into my head that I could make an awkward book about universally awkward moments. So basically, I’m collecting 15-20 situations that people find awkward. I’m not using a font, it’s going to be handwritten, not aligned well, slanted if that’s the way it’s written.. the illustrations to go with it are going to be pen drawn and simplistic. In other words, it’s going to be awkward. Lots of white space like an awkward silence. It sounds like this would take little effort, but let me tell you, making something appear awkward is extremely aggravating. I’m making this book basically for everyone to relate to. This suits my skills and interests as my artistic aesthetic is simplistic and this will be very simple. For example, the front cover of the book is just going to say “awkward” in a small font.

My book is all about my snowboard crew, B.O.O.H Crew, and the teammates that are in it.
2. What makes your content choice specific to you?
I am the founder of the crew so its practically my brain-child
3. How are you going to represent your content?
I will have different interviews and bios about all the teammates, timeline of everything that has happened in the crew and testimonials from various people. I will also have photos of everyone in the crew and screen grabs from various snowboard films we star in.
4. How do you intend to communicate the content?
Text, photos, interviews, timelines, biographies, whatever else

Questions 1 and 2 - Rowena
Summative Grade 12 Graphic Design Part 1
Ok, so round two, since I changed my mind about my first idea.
I want to photograph every single item of clothing/ accessory that I’ve gotten from a vintage/ second hand store. I’m guessing I’ll have about 100 items or something. Anyway, I’ll sort them all and have a part for normal clothes, a part for dresses, a part for shoes, and a part for accessories. Let me guess Bishop,... you’re hating this even more than my last idea?
Anyway!
That’s what I’m gonna do. And it’s still gonna be scrapbooky and have lots of coloured paper and it will have some text because I’ll have a small amount of writing in the corner listing the brand and the place I got it from.

I’ll use GIMP to edit my photos, and other than that I will use spell check on my writing and use a paper cutter to make sure all of my lines are straight.

My imagery will be in the form of pictures, cutouts, and other things that will stick to paper

I’m making this particular book because it’s a cool way to document all of the crazy 2nd hand stuff I have. Plus I need to arrange my closet, so this is kinda like a good excuse to do that.

I like photography, I like clothes, and I got a new camera. So taking pictures of clothes works.

Scrapbook! Kinda symbolic. Really colourful.

Budget (10)
My budget will include the cost of printing photos and all scrapbook materials. Luckily, I have a lot of coloured paper and scrapbook materials at home. Photos cost like 10-50 cents a print at the photo printer at kinkos. My book will be less than 50 pages. I’m thinking this will cost around 25$.
Design Planning (50)

My budget will include the cost of printing photos and all scrapbook materials. Luckily, I have a lot of coloured paper and scrapbook materials at home. Photos cost like 10-50 cents a print at the photo printer at kinkos. My book will be less than 50 pages. I’m thinking this will cost around 25$.

My book is going to be about numbers. It is going to show the actual meaning of the amount of a certain material, objects, people, and even things such as the number of chromosomes in x chromosome, etc.
2. What makes your content choice specific to you?
Seeing a picture of an actual number of a certain thing makes the impact of the message so much greater. I want to show people the actual meaning of numbers and what they actually mean such as the death count or birth count of something.
3. How are you going to represent your content?
I will be representing the book with mostly pictures of the ideas that I am trying to convey. I am going to use few words to no words, except when necessary.
4. How do you intend to communicate the content?
Using different symbols to represent each theme in the book which will most likely be either random or related to biology.
5. What content editing methods will you use?
All the editing will be done using the computer and mostly programs such as Photoshop and Corel Draw.

Book Q's
Schedule (10)
The first phase of the book is to have completed all the writing elements of it (an extremely prominent part). This will account for approximately 90% of the book’s content and is scheduled to be done by May 21 (Friday).
The next component will be to draw any necessary visuals to accompany the writing element of this book and are scheduled to be done by May 24 (Monday). This will account for approximately 6% of the book’s content.
Assembling and making of the cd and the dvd—that will be placed on two respective pages in the book—will be scheduled to be done by May 29 (Saturday). The approximate 4% of remaining content in comparison to the amount of pages it takes up, but will encompass a larger portion of content when actually viewed/listened to as intended.
At this point all the inner content of the book will have been established, and assembly of it in the proper format (InDesign, Blurb or whatever) and be done by the following Friday, June 4.
The weekend will be devoted to designing the two covers and will be completed by Monday, June 7. Monday/Tuesday will be devoted to edited and reworking anything that has loose ends, and will be completely sent in to print by the end of Tuesday, June 8.
In the time it is being sent back there will be adamant time to compile

1. What is your book about?
I recently changed my idea, it was originally going to involve blind sketching of pictures that describe a story, but I decided the actual process would be far too uncontrollable on my part. The newer idea sparked when Bishop mentioned a catalogue, and So I want my book to be a bit of a life catalogue, combining anything from clothes to furniture, that indirectly define my style, interests, etc.
2. What makes your content choice specific to you?
The fact that this book will contain several products of which I will have created in order to describe ultimately who I am, what I like, what I find funny. It’s a collection of thoughts in the form of a public products catalogue.
3. How are you going to represent your content?
The content will be shaped with created images of products, clothing, furniture, care products, electronics, and toys, anything I come up with that I can use to describe a part of me in the book.
4. How do you intend to communicate the content?
The catalogue will contain written descriptions in which I describe what the product is, what it represents, and in the tradition of a typical catalogue, a price. Any other information I will add according to what I see from looking through other similar existing books.
5. What content editing methods will you use?
For editing the content, a simple Photoshop job should suffice, perhaps some of the contents will be drawn on Photoshop or Corel Paint, both are neat and handy in their own special way.
6. What media are you using to make your imagery?
Media wise, the imagery will be anything from photographs, to drawn pictures, and will also be manipulated or created in editing programs. The range from fully photographic pictures to fully hand drawn pictures will be where the imagery will stand.
7. Why are you making this particular book?
I like the idea of cataloguing an entire outlook and interest of a single person and creating merchandise oriented book of real/ fictional products that represent interests, thoughts, ideas and personality.
8. How does your choice of content suit your skills, experience, and interest?
The materialistic theme of this book shamefully suits the fact that I sometimes do get carried away in consumer product. Clothes, new technology, anything that catches my eye, is hard not to walk away with. My book will be a story about a wolf and its pack. It will include the struggles of a young wolf abandoned by its mother and clan. It will be a children’s book or an elementary school level book. It will include images and text. The wolf character will go through many things and change through the story.
2. What makes your content choice specific to you?
Well, I have been drawing wolves more then half of the year and it has become my new thing, especially this year, so why not? It is also my strength to draw and write about one. I think it will also challenge my own skills since I have never written about an animal only a human. So giving a wolf a human persona will be interesting for me and the reader.
3. How are you going to represent your content?
I will represent it with mostly illustrations that I draw; there will be no copy-writed images since it is all my work. It will be a basic story that is straightforward and to the point. It will start off as text and periodically through the book there will be drawings of the character I have made.
4. How do you intend to communicate the content?
My communication method is purely text that I have made up. It will be shown through chapters. I am creating the story so everything I write will be mine and mine alone. I will not be using anything that is not mine.
5. What content editing methods will you use?
The editing content I will use will be Microsoft word (for the text) Possibly Indesign and Photoshop (for the images). I will possibly use other image software like MS paint or use pen and paper for sketches.

My book is going to be 15 pictures of 15 of my friends jumping coupled with a brief bio/ interview for each. I plan on printing the pictures on picture paper, but the book overall will be kinda scrapbooky with coloured paper and stuff. I’ll be using some sort of hard bristal paper for the cover. Maybe some ribbons/ fabric / buttons? I can totally feel Bishop hating it already. Anyway.

-I’m going to represent my content in the form of pictures and interviews.

This book is all about description... and lying. Text, artwork, photos and interviews will all be used to describe the Shpingle Dwarff. The book is 100% fiction, but will be presented as fact. The main goal of this book is to convince the reader that the Shpingle Dwarff is a real creature.

I will be editing real photos in photoshop, creating my own paintings in photoshop and use pictures of people for interview pages an such.
Why are you making this particular book?

1. What is your book about?
My book is about my life and the lives of my co-workers over the past year-ish. Which I realise sounds self-indulgent and egotistic, but if you’ve heard anything about Zellers drama in the past while, you know that it’s basically the OC at minimum wage.
2. What makes your content choice specific to you?
My content is specific to me because it is inspired by my actual life. Not going to get any more specific to me than that!
3. How are you going to represent your content?
My content is going to be represented in graphic novel form. Other than that it’s going to be pretty straightforward, you read the text, you look at the image, and you make inferences about what might happen next. Your standard graphic novel.
4. How do you intend to communicate the content?

5. What content editing methods will you use?
I haven’t entirely decided how I will be creating my illustrations yet, but I will be using the program “comic life” for my layout. I will likely be using photoshop for my images as well.
6. What media are you using you make your imagery?
I remain undecided… I will probably create one page with each of my potential ideas and see which one I like best… maybe get the class to vote?
7. Why are you making this particular book?
I am making this book because I feel that this story could be of interest to people and it is something I’ve wanted to turn into some form of media for a while. I’ve wanted to do it for a while partly because I think it could be entertaining for others in some form, but also to remind myself that people will always be ridiculous and there’s nothing to do but hold your head high and walk forward.

I think my content choice suits my skills in that I am a skilled writer and that comic book artistry can be the illustrators individual style. There are no real rules when it comes to graphic novels because I find they tend to reflect the illustrators and authors more than a novel. I have actually made a comic before in grade 10 for my “To Kill a Mockingbird” summative. Comics are also one of my favourite forms of media.

what is your book about?
my book is about the possessions and objects that make up my home environment. each chapter is dedicated to a room in my house and each item in that room is be documented.
what makes your content choice specific to you?
the content of the book is extremely specific to me as every word in the book represents something found in my house. nobody else’s house.
how are you going to represent your content?
with the exception of a centrefold cartoon spread, the book is completely composed of text. clean, black text on clean, white paper. In a list form, in alphabetical order within each room. I’m hoping to complete my bedroom and bathroom at the very least, as those are the two rooms that are the most personal to me. the centrefold spread will be sketches of random objects found in each room, in no particular order.
how do you intend to communicate the content?
see above. but also: each word will be approximately 14-16pt. font, however I’d like to experiment with the size of each word relaying the importance of that object/possession to me.

why are you making this particular book?
i’m making this book for a few reasons. one, I think it’s important to realize the sheer excess of items that are found in the average Canadian home. also, I’m experimenting with the idea that what you own either says a lot about you or nothing at all. I think it would be interesting to see what strangers could gather about me just by reading the book.

what is your book about?
my book is about the possessions and objects that make up my home environment. each chapter is dedicated to a room in my house and each item in that room is be documented.
what makes your content choice specific to you?
the content of the book is extremely specific to me as every word in the book represents something found in my house. nobody else’s house.
how are you going to represent your content?
with the exception of a centrefold cartoon spread, the book is completely composed of text. clean, black text on clean, white paper. In a list form, in alphabetical order within each room. I’m hoping to complete my bedroom and bathroom at the very least, as those are the two rooms that are the most personal to me. the centrefold spread will be sketches of random objects found in each room, in no particular order.
how do you intend to communicate the content?
see above. but also: each word will be approximately 14-16pt. font, however I’d like to experiment with the size of each word relaying the importance of that object/possession to me.

Michelle's Book
1. What is your book about?
My book is going to be all about the work that inspires me – more specific, illustration styles that inspire me. I’m going to take my favourite 10 (ish) illustrators/typographers and try to mirror what they do and how they do it.
2. What makes your content choice specific to you?
Well, it’s all about MY preferences for illustration and design, so it will automatically be a very personal piece of work for me.
3. How are you going to represent your content?
It’s going to be pretty straightforward. What you see is what you get from it. I won’t be showing the artist’s works as I want everything in this book to be strictly my design. It’s going to be very visual, with a very personalized aesthetic. I’m probably going to use very little actual type, but my own handwriting scanned on. Illustration IS the book. It is what it is.
4. How do you intend to communicate the content?
Like I said, I’m not displaying any of the actual work by the artists I am portraying. Rather, I am writing down a short paragraph prior to completing the actual task for each artist, talking about what I admire about their work etc. The format will probably be Image of work (one page), text (one page) – this may need to change based on the specific work I’m doing, not sure yet.
5. What content editing methods will you use?
I’m going to use InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop. There’s going to be a lot of scanning which means there will be a lot of enhancing of images in photoshop with levels and such. The whole layout will be designed in InDesign. Also, some of the illustration will require the use of photoshop and illustrator.
6. What media (materials) are you using to make your imagery?
There’s going to be a variety materials used. Although I haven’t decided every single artist that I’m going to use as inspiration, there are a few materials I know I’m going to use. Sharpies, oil paint, digital photography, construction paper, and CS programs of course.
7. Why are you making this particular book?
To be honest, I just wanted to do something that had the capability NOT to bore me. I feel like having the freedom to design / illustrate something new and unique every page will keep me going.
8. How does your choice of content suit your skills, experience, and interest?
Well, this is sort of an experimental piece. There is great potential for ultimate failure, which I’m prepared to endure. I’ve always been really interested in varieties of illustration, so I just want to test my own skills out.
9. Describe the style and look of your book and how it is linked to the content.
I am trying something different here, but I want to link back to my typical aesthetic. I want the book itself to be clear and simple. I may use my branding style for Miche Graphics, but I’m not sure. I’m not a huge fan of it, so… we’ll see.
